We put the high chair together, got some rice cereal and let her have her first bite of “real” food. She didn’t love it. And we loved her reaction.

It’s crazy to me that 6 months ago, that little peanut was born weighing just 6 pounds 9 ounces. Now, she is a whopping 17 pounds and is 25 inches long. We just visited the doctor yesterday for her check-up and he said she is doing great! He was impressed at how well she can sit up by herself and at her sleeping skills. She has been sleeping through the night (9-10 hours) about half of the time. The other half the time she wakes up once to eat. Poor Lily has had a bit of a cold these past few days, but the doctor said she should be just fine. Her lungs were clear, her ears looked good and she didn’t have a fever. She might just be crabby pants until she gets better.

I love the age Lily is right now. She has been doing so many fun things. She interacts with her toys more: holding them, reaching for them, biting them, shaking them, pushing buttons, etc. She looks up at me and smiles while she is playing and sometimes even squeals with happiness. Her coordination is improving everyday. She can pick up her binky and bite the sides of it and then put it in her mouth when she wants it. Lily smiles all the time, especially when she sees her Daddy come home from work. She’ll lean towards him, touch his scruffy face and then look back at me with a big grin on her face. It’s the cutest thing.

I know this picture has nothing to do with what I just talked about, but I think she is still adorable!

Lily is ticklish on her neck, which is sometimes hard to get to, but she will laugh and laugh when you do. It’s so fun and totally addicting. I always want to make her laugh so I can hear her cute baby squeals. She also laughs at peek-a-boo and if you fake a sneeze and say “aaaah-chooo!” Lily loves to blow raspberries and spit everywhere. I think she is really proud of this one.

Lily is such a good baby. She just keeps getting better all the time. I think back to the colicky, refluxy, gassy days and I wonder how in the world I ever got through them. They were so hard. What amazes me more is that Lily is such a happy baby now considering the rough patch she just went through. I wouldn’t trade any of it for one minute. I am so happy to go through the hard days and love her all the more now. Now that I have Lily, I wonder what I ever did before she came. She and Brett are my life and I couldn’t be happier having the two of them to love.

I try to show Brett and Lily that I love them all throughout the year, but it’s nice to have a special day set aside to show them I love them even more. This year, I suggested not spending any money on gifts for each other. I don’t think I actually thought Brett would go along with it, but he agreed. Then, a little bit of panic set in. What can I make for a boy?? Could I sew him something? What in the world would that be? A tie? He has a million of those. What was I going to do? When we were visiting Brett’s grandparents a couple weeks ago, I was flipping through Grandma’s Martha Stewart magazine and saw some really awesome homemade cards. I decided I was going to make him some cool cards. There, at least I had something to give him, but it was still not a good enough gift. I started making cards and delivering one a day to him until Valentine’s Day. As I was making all these cards, I remembered that we have a drawer full of love notes that we’ve written to each other over the years. Then it hit me: I’m going to make a book of all the love notes I have written to him. I called it the Book of Love.

It was so fun to put it together and read all the notes I wrote to him since we started dating in 2006. I was surprised at how full the book was! Brett started noticing that the new notes I had been writing to him had been disappearing and he asked me where they were. Now I am not a sneaky person. Not as sneaky as Brett is. When he started asking me about that, I knew there was no way I could say “I don’t know” without him knowing that I was up to something. So I showed him the unfinished book two days ago. And he loved it. Sarah for the win!

Lily wanted to get in on the action of card making so she let me trace her hand (well, I forced this one on her and it was almost impossible to trace that tiny hand!). We made a sweet card for Daddy that he found this morning.

There is just a special feeling in the air that isn’t there the rest of the year. Brett and I had fun putting our Christmas tree up the first weekend in December. Lily loved it! Since I’ve had my darling Lily, I’ve had a different perspective on life. This Christmas has meant more to me than past ones as I have thought more about Mary and her divine role as the mother of Jesus. I think about that little baby and the special moment it must have been when he was born. When I held Lily in my arms for the first time, I experienced an intense amount of love and joy I didn’t know was possible. I like to think about how Mary must have felt holding the Savior of the world in her arms for the first time. I can only imagine how much she loved him. I know I am so in love with this little face:

We all went down to Pajaro Dunes and stayed in a condo on the beach. Lily got to meet her only cousins for the first time and they loved her! We had a wonderful time with family at the beach. Lily loved being held by so many people who loved her. I enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday because it makes me stop and remember all the things I am thankful for. I take for granted so many things that are major blessings in my life, like my wonderful husband, my beautiful baby Lily, the food that we have, our apartment, Brett’s job, my friends and family. We have so much to be grateful for!

Brett turns 27 and Lily turns 3 months old.

Lily woke up early this morning and was awake and happy while Brett got ready for work and I put the cinnamon rolls in the oven. Brett got to spend the morning with his two girls and eat a delicious cinnamon roll.

Brett had to go to work today, but we are going out on a date tonight for the first time since my birthday in September! It will be so fun. In the meantime, I get to spend the day taking pictures of my darling Lily.

I am so grateful every day for Brett and Lily. My life is so happy because of these two amazing people. I can’t believe I am so lucky to have such a loving and wonderful husband. Brett is also an amazing Daddy to Lily. He always loves to hold her and get those sweet little baby hugs from her. He loves to try to make her smile and laugh by doing silly things. Happy Birthday to the love of my life and happy 3 months to my sweet baby girl! I love you both.

The poor girl has been battling gas, acid reflux and all the other difficulties of being a 2 month old. It has made for some tears from more than one person in this household on the not-so-good days. But we always make it through the days and nights. Then cute Lily greets us with smiles and coos in the morning and you forget how hard it was the night before. We love to see her learning and progressing. She is more alert during the day which means more playtime, tickle time and tummy time, although she does hate tummy time. Here are some pictures of our sweet Lily:
