Today is the 13 week mark for my pregnancy which means…I’m done with my first trimester! Yay! Only 2 more to go. We had a doctor’s appointment this week and an ultrasound to check on the progress of the baby and to detect down syndrome or any other defects. Both things went well! The ultrasound was my favorite. Brett got to come with me to see the baby. It was amazing! Other than my own ultrasounds, the only other one I have been to is one my mom had when my little sister, Carmen was in utero. I was 5 at the time and all I remember is that they put some jelly thing on my mom’s belly and we saw Carmen waving her hand to us. At least, that’s what it looked like to us. This time around, I was just amazed by how clearly we could see the baby and how much it was moving! It jumped all around, moved its little arms and legs and was just precious. Most of the time it liked to have its little arms right by it’s face. It was so cute! The doctors zoomed in and showed us that both hemispheres of the brain were developing and they counted 5 fingers on the baby’s hands. For being so small, (they said it was less than 3 inches big from head to bum) it has developed into being an adorable, recognizable baby! Looking at the picture from our last ultrasound when I was 8 weeks along, I was amazed at the growth the baby has done in just 5 weeks. It went from looking like a tiny blob with a heartbeat to a recognizable fetus with a head and brain, a bump of a nose, neck, round belly, arms, hands, fingers, legs and toes! That’s a lot to grow in just 5 weeks! It makes me excited for our next ultrasound, when I will be almost 20 weeks along. What is it going to look like then? I can’t wait to find out.
Until then, you can enjoy pictures from the ultrasound as well as a picture of my rounding belly.
