Yesterday, Brett and I went to the San Jose Flea Market. We had a great time there seeing all the fun things they sold. We saw a wide variety of items for sale from car grills to jewelry, clothing, produce, furniture, home and garden accessories and more. It was a big flea market and we got lost quite a few times.

A woman was selling a lot of cute fabric for only $1 a yard. I bought 7 yards of really cute green gingham fabric for $7!
Looking at the fabric
We also saw this man wearing cut-off dress pants and had to take his picture for historical purposes-neither of us had seen cut-off dress pants worn so fashionably before!

Yesterday, I was working on some schoolwork when I heard a knock on the door. It scared me half to death because no one usually knocks on our door unless we know they are coming over. Anyway, when I opened the door, no one was there. I saw a box leaned up against our little front entry window. Inside were beautiful tulips and a sweet note from Brett! I was so surprised! We said we were going to make each other gifts this year, so I was definitely not expecting anything like flowers. I kept saying “Oh my goodness” as I opened the box, read the note and then saw the beautiful flowers. I love tulips and it was such a fun surprise!
What a sweet note!
As some of you may know, I have recently been trying to sew. I don’t have very much experience, but I still try. I like it a lot because I have always wanted to be artistic, but I’m not artistic at all and sewing makes me feel like I am creating and I like that. A little while ago, Brett found this awesome weekender travel bag and instructions on how to make it. After some coaxing from Brett, I decided to try it.
I went to the fabric store and looked for all my supplies, and couldn’t find half of them so I had to re-think the bag making process. I simplified it. A lot. Here is the original intention: Awesome_weekend_travel_bag
Here is what it ended up looking like:
My weekender travel bag. I used vinyl for the bottom and handles that I found on sale
Me being proud of my success.
I even sewed a zipper in this thing!
Detail shot of the vinyl and brown stitching. You can see the bottom of the pocket too.
Detail shot of one of the struts and the handle.
Overall, I am so proud of the bag. It’s nothing fantastic, but to me its the beginning of finding my artsy and creative side.
On February 7th, 2009, Brett and I went to the San Jose Art Museum. We love art and we love museums, so it was very fun for us to go. We also found out that on the first weekend of every month, you get in to certain museums for free if you have a Bank of America card!

While we were there, we made butterflies in memory of Freda Kahlo. Brett’s is the orange one and mine is the pink and yellow one.
After the Art Museum, we walked around downtown San Jose and we found this cute phone booth outside of a British Arms Restaurant.
After our fun time in downtown San Jose, we drove up to the hills of San Jose just to explore. We drove up steep hills and windy roads and found this beautiful spot. The sun was setting and it was very romantic.

On the drive back down the hills, we saw a this funny sight and had to take a picture of it:
Nice place for a bath
maybe not such a nice place for a bath...
On February 6, 2009, Brett and I went to the Winter Ball. The San Jose South Stake hosted a huge dance for the adults and we got to be a part of the decorating and of course, the dancing. We had so much fun at the dance together! Here is a picture we had taken that night.
